Granny's Oldtime Cookbook Privacy Policy

Granny's Oldtime Cookbook keeps your recipes, meal plans and shopping lists for you. It was made so that what you put in it stays yours.

Collecting and using your personal data

Granny's Oldtime Cookbook does not collect, store, or share any of your personal data with us. We have no servers and no accounts, and we cannot see your recipes, your plans, or anything else you keep in the app. There is no advertising, analytics, or tracking of any kind.

What the app keeps on your device

Your recipes and their photos, your notes and ratings, your meal plans and saved meals, your shopping lists, the allergens you choose to watch for, the lessons you have ticked off, and your settings are all kept on your device.

Google Drive sync (optional)

If you choose to sync the cookbook between your devices, it asks for permission to use a private app folder in your own Google Drive. That folder can only be seen by Granny's Oldtime Cookbook, and the app cannot see anything else in your Drive. It keeps your recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, settings, whether you have bought the Recipe Library, and, unless you turn photo sync off, your recipe photos. This copy is only used to keep your own devices up to date. You can turn sync off at any time in Settings, and you can delete the folder's contents from your Google account's Drive settings.

Granny's Oldtime Cookbook's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Backups and sharing

When you save a backup, the app writes one file to the folder you choose, replacing the last one. When you share a recipe or a meal, the app hands it to the app you pick (email, messages, and so on), and nothing is sent unless you send it.

Going online

The app only goes online when you ask it to: to read a recipe from a web page whose address you give it, to show the newest posts from the cooking websites and YouTube channels you follow on the Inspiration page, to sync with your Google Drive if you have turned sync on, and to ask your app store about the Recipe Library purchase. Those websites, YouTube and Google handle your visit under their own privacy policies.

The Recipe Library purchase

Every tool in the cookbook is free. The Recipe Library is a one-time purchase made through the store you got the app from (Google Play, the App Store or the Microsoft Store), which handles the payment under its own privacy policy. We never see your name or payment details.

Camera and photos

If you photograph a dish or a recipe card, the picture is kept with the recipe on your device. Reading the words off a photographed recipe happens on your device. On Android you can choose Google's document scanner, which runs through Google Play services on your phone. Pictures are never sent to us.

Allergens

Allergen marks are worked out on your device from the words in each recipe. They are a guide, not a guarantee, and nothing about the allergens you watch for leaves your device unless you sync it to your own Drive.

Suggestions

If you send us a suggestion from Settings, the app opens your own email app with the message ready for you to send. Nothing is sent unless you send it.

Permissions

The cookbook uses the camera (only when you take a photo or scan a recipe), the internet (only for the things listed above), and, on Android, your Google account (only if you turn on sync). It does not use your location, contacts, calendar, or microphone.

Children's Policy

We do not collect any data from anyone, especially any personal information from children.

Policy Updating

We may, from time to time, update our privacy policy here. To view our updated privacy policy please return to this page.
