Power to the People Privacy Policy
Effective October 3, 2026
The short version: Power to the People has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. What you enter (your address, your notes, the bills and people you follow, how you would have voted) stays on your device. A few features send something off your device, only when you use them, and only to do what you asked. We never sell or share information about you.
Who we are
Power to the People is a free civic app that shows public records about the United States government: the Constitution, your elected officials, bills, votes and elections. It is made by The Eclectic Witch ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy can be sent to support@00theeclecticwitch00.com.
What stays on your device
These are saved only on your phone or computer. We cannot see them, and they are not backed up to any server of ours:
- The address or location you enter, and the districts found for it
- Your notes on officials and candidates, and the promises you record
- Bills, topics and members of Congress you follow, and your alert history
- How you say you would have voted on bills and roll calls
- Your settings, such as theme and text size
Deleting the app deletes all of this. You can also remove your address in the app at any time ("Remove my address" on the location screen).
What leaves your device, and why
Only these features send information off your device, and only when you use them:
| When you… | What is sent | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Set your location | The address you type | The U.S. Census Bureau's address service, to find your congressional and state districts. |
| Look up where to vote or what's on your ballot | The address you type | Our app's service, which passes it once to Google's Civic Information service and sends back the answer. We do not store or log the address. |
| Turn on "Add my answers to the app-wide count" (off unless you turn it on) | Your Yea or Nay answer for each vote or bill, with a random code made by the app | Our app's service, which adds it to a running count shown to all users. Each answer is stored under a one-way scrambled code that is different for every vote, so answers cannot be linked to each other, to you, or to your device. No name, address or internet address is stored. Turning sharing off removes your answers from the counts. |
| Search state bills or open a bill's lobbying records | Your search words and state, or the bill number | Our app's service, which looks them up at Open States or the U.S. Senate's lobbying disclosure database (lda.gov). We do not keep searches. |
Downloading public records
To show current information, the app downloads public data files and pictures, for example from the GitHub Pages site where this app's data is published, the U.S. Treasury, Congress.gov and Wikimedia. Like any website, those servers can see your device's internet address when it asks for a file. The app sends them nothing about you.
Links in the app (to Congress.gov, officials' websites or social media, and others) open in your browser or in that service's app. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Our app's service
The small service behind the features above runs on Cloudflare. To limit abuse, Cloudflare briefly checks how many requests come from one internet address; that address is not stored by us.
Alerts and notifications
Alerts are checked on your device, which downloads the same public files everyone gets. No push-notification service is used, so no one learns what you follow.
What we don't do
- No accounts or sign-in
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers
- No analytics, usage tracking or crash reporting services
- No selling, renting or sharing of information about you
- No location tracking: the app uses only the address you type, never your device's GPS
Children
The app is meant for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes what it sends or stores, this policy will be updated first, with a new effective date at the top. Paid features, if added, will be handled by Apple or Google, whose own privacy policies cover payments.
